We are taking a proactive and transparent approach to reducing our environmental impact, combining responsible practices, data-driven carbon management, and long-term planning to support the journey towards Net Zero.
At GS Kelsey Construction, we recognise that the environment in which we operate is changing, and with that comes a clear responsibility to act. While the wider debate around climate change continues to evolve, it is undeniable that the conditions we experience today differ significantly from those of previous decades. As a responsible contractor, we are committed to ensuring that our activities contribute positively to a more sustainable future.
In recent years, we have taken meaningful steps to reduce our environmental impact. These include investing in digital systems to minimise paper use, modernising our vehicle fleet to improve efficiency and emissions, and implementing energy-saving measures across our offices and operational practices. Sustainability is increasingly embedded within our day-to-day decision-making, influencing how we plan, manage, and deliver our projects.
A key milestone in our journey was achieving accreditation to ISO 14001 in early 2024. This process strengthened our environmental management systems and reinforced our commitment to continuous improvement. It also highlighted the importance of going further, particularly in supporting the UK’s ambition to achieve Net Zero by 2050.
To build a clear and credible pathway forward, we are currently undertaking a comprehensive, company-wide carbon monitoring programme. This initiative is designed to establish a detailed understanding of our total annual emissions, enabling us to develop a robust and realistic mulit-year carbon reduction strategy. Our approach is grounded in measurable data, practical implementation, and transparency, avoiding reliance on superficial offsetting in favour of genuine, sustainable change.
Our carbon management plan will focus on key areas of impact, including fleet transport, company offices, construction site offices, and the use of in-house plant and machinery on site. By analysing these areas in detail, we aim to identify opportunities for meaningful reduction while maintaining operational efficiency.
We are committed to achieving Net Zero; however, we are equally mindful of the challenges involved within the construction sector. As a heavy industry, progress is closely linked to ongoing advancements in technology, particularly in relation to low-emission plant and machinery. While electric alternatives are emerging, their availability, performance, and infrastructure support continue to develop. As such, our strategy will remain adaptable, evolving alongside technological innovation to ensure that our ambitions are both achievable and responsible.
Through a balanced, honest, and forward-thinking approach, we are working towards a more sustainable future while continuing to deliver high-quality construction solutions for our clients.
