Net Zero Ambitions

Here at Kelsey Construction, we defer the discussions and debates surrounding climate change to those with a deeper understanding. However, it is evident to us that the climate we observe today is noticeably different from that of 30 years ago.

As a responsible business, we have a moral obligation to ensure that our operations do not contribute negatively to the natural climate conditions. In recent years, we have taken significant steps to reduce our carbon footprint. This includes investing in digital infrastructure, modernizing our vehicle fleet, and implementing energy-saving initiatives at our company offices and more.

In early 2024, we achieved accreditation to ISO:14001. Through this process, we realized that more needs to be done to progress towards the national objective of becoming Net Zero by 2050. Consequently, Kelsey Construction is currently undertaking a year-long company-wide monitoring program. The aim is to determine the full extent of our annual carbon emissions, which will enable us to develop a realistic carbon reduction plan over the next 5 years that supports a scientific approach, fully costed and with no deceptive carbon offsets.

The business carbon management plan will look to categorise the following.

  • Fleet Transport
  • Company Offices
  • Construction Site Offices
  • Construction Site – Plant and Machinery (In house)

As a company, we aspire to be Nett Zero, but we must be forthcoming about the challenges we face and need to take into account the economic, environmental, and technological constraints of working in a heavy industry, where future technology advancements will be essential to reaching Nett Zero goals. Although there are electric powered plant and machinery in use across UK sites, their nationwide availability and operational efficiency still needs to be improved. As a result, any plans for carbon reduction will inevitably emerge and adapt in tandem with these technological developments.
